design challenges
There is something very satisfying about your smallest design project ever. I had never designed pins before and had a limited knowledge of what the processes and limitations of this media were. This unfamiliarity was the key to a unique design. I had to imagine not only the design, but the subtle 3-dimensional process involved with creating, well, a lapel pin. I imagined the epoxy — is it translucent or opaque — and the mold — how versatile was it? As it turns out, my vision for these pins was made possible only by the company's very new process. This resulted in a truly unique appearance that included traditional pin design as well as a translucent 3-dimensional effect — only the second time this process had been used. The first — the Vancouver Olympic Games Organizing Committee.
